Scanning Devices reported today that it had completed the development of a prototype Wireless Load Cell System using Zigby components from Texas Instruments and Freescale Semiconductor. The work was completed for the ISWM Committee on Wireless Load Cell Standards.
At the meeting of the Committee in Lancaster PA the company presented a working prototype of a 4 Loadcell ZigBee Wireless Scale. The prototype included 4 Loadcells, A/D Adapters, and ZigBee End Devices. Data was transmitted wirelessly using ZigBee Protocols to a ZigBee Coordinating Module, thru an adapter to a final indicator.
The company had been asked by the Committee to explore the potential of developing an open architecture system mixing TI and Freescale components. The prototype included both and demonstrated that a system could be built that allowed for the exchange of components between vendors in a wireless network of this type.

In March Scanning Devices,Inc. introduced the BC400 Multi-bay Charger for the BB-2590 Li-Ion Battery. The BB-2590 is commonly used to power robots used both in Public Safety and Commercial applications. The Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad has deployed one of the company's battery chargers in a Mobile Unit used by first responders.
But the company's newest product has most recently helped the UMass Lowell Rover Hawks win First Place in a NASA sponsored Robotics Contest held in Houston, Texas. The UMass Lowell robotics team beat seven other teams from nine universities across the country for the top spot!
Congratulations from Scanning Devices to the hard working team at UMass Lowell for their well deserved win!
