Quarter-trol Bi-directional Proportional Registration Control System
Our most capable system offers automatic repeat length variation adjustment. It measures and displays deviation from registration target and generates correction signals proportional to registration error. Correct signals can be used to drive motors, adjusting tool position, to maintain registration targets. It also features out-of-registration alarms, quick and easy setup, and on-the-fly adjustments.
The Quarter-trol System is applicable to processes requiring a web operation synchronized or registered to a mark: die-cutting, bag-making, can winding, label application and similar applications. It uses an optical sensor to detect the registration mark and a rotary shaft encoder to monitor the position of the process tool. The system controller compares the operation with the registration target to determine required correction action.
Four correction outputs are avaiable: Forward and Reverse correction outputs for both differential and repeat length variations (PIV). Outputs can be used to drive variable speed DC motors or AC gear motors, adjusting the process tool position to maintain registered operation.
Quarter-trol features quick and easy setup: The operator uses manual controls on the system panel to bring the web process into registration, then switches the system to automatic. The Quarter-trol "Learns" the registration target and controls the process. The System's front panel data display and lights provide an indication of process status and stability at a glance. Front panel controls allow the operator to make on-the-fly adjustments, moving the position of a function within the control scheme.
The Quarter-trol uses programmable parameters to specify the relationship between measured registration error and correction outputs. These include windows to disregard extraneous print in the scanner path, limits for registration target deviation and repeat length variation, as well as input and output calculators.
The Quarter-trol System consists of three components:
1. Quarter-trol System Controller measures the position of the tool operation relative to the web registration mark and generates correction outputs. It provides an operator interface with status displays and controls. The system controller is available as a a complete system unit mounted in an industrial enclosure or a panel unit suitable to be mounted on the face of an existing enclosure.
2. Registration Mark Scanner to monitor the moving web.
3. Shaft Encoder rotates with the process tool, measuring and reporting tool position.
